Igoumenitsa/Patra to Skiathos

The Question:
To Reach Skiathos from BRINDSI.
Do i have to arrive at Igoumenitsa or Patrasto reach Skiathos. I am traveling along with my family of FOUR.
FROM Igoumenitsa / Patras HOW SHOULD I REACH SKIATHOSPl suggest the convenient way to reach Skiathos.
Thank YouChittinani

The Answer:

Hello,

From Igoumenitsa it is a bit hard to travel until Volos and then take the ferry to Skiathos. You will have to take the KTEL bus until Ioannina and then change bus until Volos. Bus stations' telephones are 0030 26650 22309 and 0030 26510 26286 for each one if you want to know about the timetables.
From Patra it is easier. There is a KTEL bus on 15.30 leaving Patras towards Volos. The trip lasts 5 hours and the cost is 24 euros. You can call the bus station at 0030 2610 623887.
As soon as you get to Volos there are frequent ferry lines to Skiathos at the port, so it shouldn't be a problem. You can check the routes online at http://www.fantasticgreece.com/ and http://www.hellenicseaways.gr/ in a few days that will be announced.

From Skopelos to Athens

The Question:

Hi Stavros, this is an excellent service, many thanks.
I will be staying in Skopelos,Sporades, this May for 10 days. I wish to then travel to Athens by ferry and intercity coach (KTEL) on the same day to catch an international flight.
My questions:
1.Is it better to take the ferry to Volos or Agios Konstantinos?
2.Which provides the better connections with KTEL?
3.Where can I obtain the respective timetables?
4.How and where can I make reservations?

Very many thanks
Derek Scott

The Answer:

Hi Derek! Thank you for your kind words!

Well, I would recommend you to choose the ferry going to Agios Konstantinos, as it is only 165 km from Athens. From Agios Konstantinos you can take the KTEL bus towards Athens. During the summer period there is a bus leaving almost every hour. Unfortunately, there is no pre-booking option for bus tickets, but you will be able to find tickets, there is always availability, so you do not need to worry! In case you want to know the exact bus itineraries you can call at 0030 210 8317186. As far as the ferry tickets are concerned you can book them online here 1-2 months before your trip.

Ktel connection Igoumenitsa-Thessaloniki

The Question:

I plsn to take the ferry from Corfu to Igoumenitsa on Thursday March 26 arriving at 12:15pm (1215 hrs). I understand I can make a bus connection through Ioannina to Thessaloniki. What sort of time schedule am I likely to encounter? Can I book a hotel in Thessaloniki for the night? And where will the bus stop in relation to hotels??
Thank you.

The Answer:

Hello,

The distance between Igoumentisa and Thessaloniki is 360 km. The KTEL bus route is only one per day at 10.30 am and it costs 36 euros. It will take you 6 hours and the telephone number of the station is 0030 26650-22309.
About the hotels, of course you can book a hotel for one night. You will find some choices if you search online. I provide you a hotels' search result here from a website I trust. By reading the descriptions of the hotels you will be able to spot the ones near bus stations.

Ways to reach Lefkas from Athens

The Question:

HI Stavros,
Could you please tell me how we might get from Athens to Lefkas.
Also we would like to pend overnight in Santorini - is there any high speed ferries available?

The Answer:

Hi!

Well there are 3 different ways to reach Lefkas from Athens. The first one is by a car. The distance is 385 km and you should drive towards, Corinth, Patras (Rion), Antirion, Amfilochia, Vonitsa and finally to Lefkas. It will take you about 4 hours and the cost of tolls as a sum is 20 E as the bridge Rion-Antirion you cross is quiet expensive (11 E).

If a car is not the case, you can go to Lefkas by KTEL bus from Athens suburban coach station at 100 Kifissou Av. There are 3-4 daily routes and the trip lasts 5 hours. You can find out more at the tel. number 2105250108 about timetable and ticket cost.

Alternatevelly, there is also flight connection from Athens towards Aktion and from there there are busses going to Lefkas (25 km). The flight lasts one hour more or less.

Regarding Santorini, from Lefkas there is not available ferry connection, as they are located in difference sea-comlexes (Ionion and Aegean). There are connections with other islands in the same sea complex (Lefkas-Kefalonia-Ithaki-Paksoi-Zakynthos and Santrorini-Mykonos-Ios-Folegandros-Anafi).

Hope I helped you!

Bus connections between Kalamata - Tripolis - Nafplion

The Question:

Hi Stavros!

What is the quickest way to travel from Kalamata to Nafplion? How long does it take and is this expensive?
Also I'll then be travelling from Nafplion to Athens! Again do you know how long this takes and the cost?
Finally - should I book in advance and do you know who I should book through?
Thanks!
David

The Answer:

Hi David!

Well, if you don't have your own car, the quickest way to reach Nafplion from Kalamata is with KTEL bus through Tripolis.
The first part Kalamata - Tripolis costs 7,20 E and lasts 80 minutes and the second one Tripolis - Nafplion costs 6 E and lasts 75 minutes. Please note that at Tripolis you will have to change bus.
The timetable choices that allow you to combine both parts are:
Kalamata-Tripolis: 06.00, 09.30 and 12.30 (Kalamata bus station tel. number 0030 27210 28581)
Tripolis-Nafplion: 10.00 and 14.00 (Tripolis bus station tel. number 0030 2710 222560)

From Nafplion to Athens there is also a KTEL bus almost every hour. Check the timetable online here. Ticket costs 11,80 E and the trip lasts 2,5 hours (Nafplion bus station tel. number 0030 27520 28555).

It is not common to book in advance. You can simply buy your tickets at the Ktel stations 1 hour before departure. If you prefer to secure a seat, you could ask for a telephone pre-booking at the numbers I provided you with for each station.

Hope you now have all the information you were looking for!

From Kiato to Aigio do I change train platforms?

The Question:

Do I have to change platforms (or stations) when I get to Kiato to take the train from Kiato to Aigio?? Is the train from Kiato to Aigio only OSE or is there Intercity as well??? From past experience I know OSE are not reliable time wise. Is the train leaving Piraeus at 20.44 intercity? If yes, why do I change at Kiato and not go through to Aigio??

Helen

The Aswer:

Hi again Helen!

Well, the part Piraeus-Kiato is by the train of proastiakos and everything is ok. With the intercity proastiakos train departing on 20.44 from Piraeus you will arrive on 21.27 at Kiato. From there you just change platform (one level down at the same station) and continue with OSE train departing 21.37 towards Patras. For the time being this line is not direct, it has to stop by various villages, even if the name is intercity.
But.. I just found out by calling 1110 that the last part after Kiato is out of order - and will be this way until 19/12/08! The latest update is that the route after Kiato is being served by a bus waiting at Kiato to get all the passengers coming from Piraeus/Athens until Diakofto. From Diakofto the bus will leave you at the train station. As soon as you get on that train Aigio is 3 stops away. In less than 10 min you will be there.
If you think this is much of a trouble, why don't you try to get the KTEL bus departing from Athens Kifissos Central Bus Station and arriving at Aigio in 2 hours and 15 minutes? I know that the bus ticket is more expensive (total cost one way around 12E) but you will enjoy the confort! Find out more on +30 210 5147310.

Have fun at beautiful Aigio! Don't miss Akoli Beach ;)

From Thessaloniki to Igoumenitsa by Bus

Kali mera Stavro,
please can you tell me a bus connection from Thessaloniki to Igoumenitsa? Where are the buses starting in Thessaloniki and what is the price? How long is the ride?
Echaristo para poli
Peter

The Answer:

Kali mera Peter!
In order to reach Igoumenitsa by bus, you will first have to reach Ioannina and then change bus with direction to Igoumenitsa. Buses depart from Thessaloniki to Igoumenitsa at 07.30, 11.00, 13.30, 15.00, 18.00 and 21.30, but since bus timetables are subject to change very easily, it is always better to confirm the timetable with the call center of the main bus station in Thessaloniki (+30 2310 500111).
The exact location of the suburban bus station KTEL in Thessaloniki can be seen in a map at http://www.ktel-thes.gr/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=26&Itemid=93&lang=el. Prices change and depend on the time of the year. The route from Thessaloniki to Igoumenitsa is approximately 5.5 hours.

From Kifisos Suburban Bus Station to Piraeus Port

The Question:

Hello!
In a few days I'll be coming from Patra to Athens by bus. They told me I will arrive to Kifisos Bus Station. From there I have to get to Piraeus port within 1 hour.Do you know how I can get from the bus station to Piraeus?
Thank you very much for your attention
Alessio

The Answer:

Hello Alessio!
To reach the Piraeus port, you need to take the bus 051 from the suburban bus station KTEL, take off at the end of the its route and then take the subway (green line) from Omonoia to Piraeus (final station). Since you have limited time, maybe it would be a better idea if you could catch a taxi from the suburban bus station. Keep in mind that depending on the time you arrive and the day the traffic maybe heavier and as a result take you longer than 30 minutes to arrive at the port!
