From Piraeus port to Thessaloniki by Train

The Question:

Hi Stavros,
are there trains going from Pireaus Port to Thessaloniki or do I have to go to Athens to catch the bus to Thessaloniki?

The Answer:

Hello!
There are trains leaving from Athens to Thessaloniki. From the port of Piraeus you can either take the metro or the suburban railway in order to reach the main train station Larissis from where you will switch trains and take the one to Thessaloniki. If you choose to go by metro to the Larissis trains station, then you need to take the green line from Piraeus and then by changing to the red line stop at "Larissis station". If you prefer to take the suburban railway, then you will only need to take one train until the "Stathmos Athinon" station which is actually a second name for the Larissis main train station. Be aware that the metro departs from a different station than the suburban railway! Both station though are very close to the port of Piraeus and within walking distance!
Hope this helps!

From Athens to Volos by Train

The Question:

Hi Stavros!
I have to get to Volos from Athens. I see from previous mails that it would entail a number of metro and bus changes from Athens airport to Liosion bus Terminal. Is there no train going to Volos? Also, if we need to stay overnight in an area nearby Liosion station (after arriving early evening into Athens, so that we can depart nice and early the next morning) what area would you recomend? Somewhere nice, good restaurants and nightlife but easy metro to Liosion?
Thanks for your help!

The Answer:

Hey there!
There is a train connection from Athens to Volos, but the trains departing to Volos are not very frequent. Trains de part from the "Stathmos Larissis" central train station which you can reach by using the metro and taking off at the station "Larissis" on the red line.
As far as the areas to stay near Liosion street are concerned, I would not recommend any near the bus station. They are quite dangerous and not that lovely to stay even just for one night. The next possible areas where you could stay are some metro stations away, so you would have to make a little journey again the nexti morning.
Hope this has helped!

Bus from Piraeus to Igoumenitsa

The Question:

Hi
We are planning to travel from Crete to Corfu in as little time as possible. We were hoping to catch the overnight ferry from Kissamos to Piraeus, and then are hoping to catch a bus to Igoumenitsa and onto Corfu. Just unsure of where buses depart from in Athens and how frequently? Do any buses leave directly from Piraeus? Thanks so much
Claire

The Answer:

Dear Claire,

Unfortunately there is no bus leaving straight from Piraeus to Igoumenitsa. You need to reach the suburban bus station KTEl Kifisos and from there take the bus to Igoumenitsa. The Kifisos station is approximately 20-25 minutes from Piraeus port by taxi. Otherwise you can take the metro (green line) from Piraeus up to Omonoia and from there the bus 051 which will take you to the Kifisos Bus station. Buses to Igoumenitsa depart daily 4 times a day (2 in the mornign, 1 midday and one in the afternoon).
I hope I have helped you!

Transportation to and from Volos

The Question:

Best way to get to port of pireaus from volos?
Best way to get from Athens international airport to Volos?

The Answer:

Thank you for the question!
So, if you are already in Volos, then you need to take the suburban bus (KTEL) which will take you to Athens. As soon as the bus arrives in Athens you will be at the Liosion Suburban Bus Station (KTEL Liosion). From there you can take a bus that goes straight to the metro (green line) and the station's name is "Kato Patisia". By using the metro and taking off at Piraeus (last station) you will have arrives right outside the port of Piraeus.
From the Athens International Airport it is better to take the metro (blue line) and change at Monastiraki to the green line and then take off at Kato Patisia station. From there you can take a bus that will take you to the Liosion Suburban Bus Station (KTEL Liosion) and from there take the suburban bus to Volos.
There are more than one bus lines that can take you from the Kato Patisia station to the Liosion Suburban Bus station. It is better check the bus itineraries first before boarding on one or just ask at the metro station!
I hope this has helped you!
