Ferries to Skiathos

The Question:

what is the ferry between Volos and Athens called that goes to Skiathos

The Answer:

Hello,

there is not a specific name for the ferry. You can check the timetable from www.hellenicseaways.gr and www.fantasticgreece.com in a few days. From Volos the boat trip lasts three hours if you catch the ferry or one & a half by the hydrofoil.
The trip takes almost the half hour if you take the ferries from Aghios Konstantinos, the port on the mainland, between Athens & Volos (if you mean the name of the port).

Hope I have helped you!

Istanbul to Igoumenitsa via Thessaloniki and then ferry to Brindisi

The Question:

Hi Stavros,I am planning to travel from Istanbul to Igoumenitsa via Thessaloniki by bus in late March 2009 and then catch a ferry to Brindisi (Italy). Please would you give me an idea of travel times, cost and if I can get a ferry from Igoumenitsa to Brindisi in late March 2009.
Thank You.
Regards Bob.

The Answer:

Hey Bob!

Well from Istanbul you can catch the bus heading to Thessaloniki. The cost one way is about 45 E and the trip lasts 12 hours with one stop at Alexandroupolis. The bus from Istanbul towards Thessaloniki leaves once a day from Büyük Otogar (Main Bus Terminal) and you can contact this terminal to find information on timetables.
Then from Thessaloniki you change buses to Igoumenitsa. It is being realized one route per day departing at 13.00 so you should plan arriving from Istanbul ontime. The cost with KTEL bus between Thessaloniki and Igoumenitsa is 37 E and you will arrive at Igoumenitsa 5 hours later.
To get to Brindisi there is ferry connection from Igoumenitsa and the trip lasts 7 hours. For timetable you should contant the ferry companies directly as they haven't announced online schedule for spring 2009 yet. The cost is between 40 and 140 euros depending on the seat you will choose (deck, external cambine, etc).

Hope I helped you!

Syros to Piraeus, Piraeus to Patras and Patras to Venice!

The Question:

Gday! StavrosWe are going to be staying on Syros Island for a couple of weeks and then need to get to Venice to catch a Costa Cruise on the 23rd May 09. Flights from Athens to Venice are complicated We thought we would try the Ferry from Syros to Piraeus (or Corinth)?? then catch a train ride through to Patra where we can catch an overnight ferry to Venice. We are not sure if the journey can be completed in one day? as the ferry to venice leaves Patra at mid night?? Can you advise us with our best options? Do you know if the Cruise liners leave Venice from the same port as the Minoan ferry?Regards Sheila

The Answer:

Hey Sheila!
Well, I think you can make it in one day if you start early and with a good planning!
Syros-Piraeus lasts 2,5 to 4 hours depending on the ferry type you will choose. The timetable is not available, as the companies publish it around March. One good site to check it out then is www.fantasticgreece.com.
Then at Piraeus you will have to take the train. There is proastiakos train line until Kiato and then OSE train until Patra. I know 2 routes for Piraeus-Parta: one at 11.44 and one other at 18:44. You can find more departing hours by calling their call centre on 1110. The personnel is quite helpful! Ah and the port from Proastiakos train platforms is close enough so you will have to calculate in advance 30 minutes to get there.
If you want to catch the midnight ferry to Venice you should plan to arrive at Patras the latest 22.45 as you need to get from the train station to the port. The distance is not far away, don't worry about it. The trip with the train from Piraeus to Patras takes 3.30-4 hours.
I am not sure about the port at Venice..why don't you check their official site at http://www.costacruise.com ? I am sure you will find a great deal of useful tips!
Hope I have helped!

From Kastelorrizo to Kas and Platanias to Skiathos

The Question:

Yassis Stavros!!
This site is awesome...you are awesome!! I have a question for you. Can I get a boat from Kastellorizo to Cas?? And another question, can I get a boat from Platania to Skiathos? I realize that these would be private boats not ferries....any idea of the cost??
Efkaristo para poli,
Jayne Pnevmatikos

P.s. keep up the good work!!

The Answer:

Hey Jayne and thank you for all your kind words!
There is a ferry connection between Kastellorizo and Kas in Turkey and more specifically caiques are travelling to and from Kas daily. Since it is a local business, prices change and there is online booking option or a fixed pricelist. There is also a ferry connection between Platanias and Skiathos, but once again the ferry company is local.
Hope I have helped!

From Bodrum to Santorini

The Question:

Round trip bodrom to santorini.

The Answer:

Hello,
There are no ferries departing from Bodrum to Santorini island. There are only ferry connections to the greek islands of Rhodes and Kos. From these two islands you can take another ferry to take you to Santorini. Ferry departures are not daily though.
To check greek ferry itineraries visit www.fantasticgreece.com/boats. For the ferry connection between Turkey and Greece, there is no official website, so you need to contact the local port authorities to find out regarding the ferry schedules.
