How to reach Skiathos from Athens

The Question:

Hi there,
What is the cheapest way to travel from Athens to Skiathos in the first week of May? Flights are coming up at about 120 Euro return, but is there a ferry, bus or train option?
Many thanks.

The Answer:

Hey,

there is a bus departing from Athens going to Agios Konstantinos port in Central Greece. From there you simply take the ferry to Skiathos. There are both flying dolphins and regular ferries and the trip varies between 1 and 1,5 hour. You can check the seaplane schedules and prices in a few days that they are expected to be online from www.fantasticgreece.com or www.hellenicseaways.gr/.
The public transport K.T.E.L. bus from Athens LIOSION intercity station to Agios Konstantinos departs a quarter past, every hour and the trip is 2 hours and 15 minutes. Ticket costs 14 euros.
I suggest you to wait a few days to get the ferry prices and see wheather the flight connection is better for you.

Happy to have helped you!

Athens to Skopelos and Skopelos to Patras

The Question:

Hello We will be in Greece on Honeymoon in April. We are starting i Athens and tehn want to take a bus up to Ag.Kon and then across to Skopelos. Can we do this in a day ? More importantly on the way back is it possible to get from Skopelos to Patras in one day arriving in Patras in time to catch teh 6pm ferry to Italy ?

The Answer:

Hello!

As far as the first part of your email is concerned, then yes you can do Athens-Skopelos in one day. From Athens you simply take the KTEL bus towards Agios Konstantinos (bus station tel. number 0030 22310 51346 at Liossion Main Ktel Bus Station) and from there, you get the ferry towards Skopelos Island. The ferry schedule has not been announced yet, but don't worry routes are frequent. Check them on http://www.fantasticgreece.com/ in a month or so.
On your return day, I would suggest you to take the ferry back to Agios Konstantinos and from there to rent a car and drive until Patras. That is why I am not sure if you can manage to be there before 6pm... To take the bus to Athens and then change station to get another bus to Patras seem to me a bit risky. Have in mind that each route lasts 1,5 and 3 hours respectivelly. Only if you start from Skopelos really early and stick to the bus timetables you will make it without rush.
Renting a car will be safer. The distance Agios Konstantinos-Patras is 212 km (3 hours) and you can easily plan your route from ViaMichelin site. Moreover, gas cost will be equal to that of busses' tickets more or less (e.g. Athens-Patras costs 18 euro!)

Buses from Agios Konstantinos to Athens

The Question:

What time do buses go from Agios Konstantinos to Athens?Do they stop at Athens airport?

The Answer:

Hello!
Since bus schedules are subject to change at any time and without notice, there is no official timetable. You can call the suburban bus station of KTEL in Liosio, Athens and get information regarding the timetables (+30 210 8317147).
The Athens International Airport is not a stop for these buses. You need to take the metro to reach the airport.
Hope this helps!

Transport times from Athens to Volos and Accommodation Tips in Athens

The Question:

Hi Stavros
I arrive at Athens airport at 20.50 on 10th September. I spend the following day in Athens seeing the sights. I travel to Volos on the 12th. I need decent, basic accomodation on the 10th and the 11th. The hotel near the airport is far too expensive. Could you help with transport times and accomodation?
kind regards
Vincent

The Answer:

Hi Vincent!
As far as the accommodation in Athens is concerned, then you can check out www.athenshotels.gr to find the most suitable place for you. as far as trasport times are concerned, due to the fact that bus or even train itineraries change frequently and according to demand, it is advisable to call the central stations first to confirm them. The central bus station for buses departing to Volos is the Liosion Bus station and the phone number is +30 210 8317153 and the train station to Volos is called Stathmos Larissis and the phone number is +30 210 5297777.

From Athens to Volos by Train

The Question:

Hi Stavros!
I have to get to Volos from Athens. I see from previous mails that it would entail a number of metro and bus changes from Athens airport to Liosion bus Terminal. Is there no train going to Volos? Also, if we need to stay overnight in an area nearby Liosion station (after arriving early evening into Athens, so that we can depart nice and early the next morning) what area would you recomend? Somewhere nice, good restaurants and nightlife but easy metro to Liosion?
Thanks for your help!

The Answer:

Hey there!
There is a train connection from Athens to Volos, but the trains departing to Volos are not very frequent. Trains de part from the "Stathmos Larissis" central train station which you can reach by using the metro and taking off at the station "Larissis" on the red line.
As far as the areas to stay near Liosion street are concerned, I would not recommend any near the bus station. They are quite dangerous and not that lovely to stay even just for one night. The next possible areas where you could stay are some metro stations away, so you would have to make a little journey again the nexti morning.
Hope this has helped!

The Question:

I would like to know the bus schedule for travel on the morning of 4 September 2008 from Athens (Kaningos Square) to Agios Constantinos. I would like to arrive at Agios Constantinos in time to board the Flying Dolphins ferry that leaves Agios Constantinos at 1030 and arrives in Alonissos about 1430.

Buses from Athens to Agios Constantinos

The Question:

Sometimes traveling in Greece really is a puzzle. Since the ktel.org site is down there isn“t a chance to get any information about busses leaving from Terminal B (Kifissou) to Agios Constantinos. Is there? Is it possible to get these informations from somewhere else? I am looking for the bus schedule for august/september 2008.
Thanks
Eddi

The Answer:

Hello Eddi!
This is unfortunately true... But I will try to help as much as I can!
First of all, buses departing to Agios Constantinos leave from the suburban bus station KTEL Liosion which is at 260 Liosion str. in the area of Kato Patissia. Besides that, unfortunately bus schedules are not published anywhere officialy since they change quite often. To find out the scheduled bus itineraries though, you can call at the information desk of Liosion Suburban Bus Station (0030 210 8317109) and ask specifically about the times and prices.

Shortest way to Milina, Amaliapoli, Pegadi, Palaio Trikeri

The Question:

Kalimera!
I am looking for the fastest route from Athens (airport) to either of:
a) Milina (the sunsail boat base)
b) Amaloupoulos
c) Pegadi
d) Palaio Trikeri
No need to answer to all three, I just need to be able to join my family (on a boat) at one of these 4 points.
Many thanks in advance !!

The Answer:

Kalimera!
I believe that tha shortest and easiest way is to Milina. To reach Milina, you need to take a suburban bus from the Liosion Bus station in Athens until Volos and then take the regional bus to Milina. Unless you can rent a car from the Athens International Airport and arrange to drop it in Volos? If you are interested in something like that you can book your car at www.fantasticgreece.com.
The rest of the regions you are referring to are harder to reach since there are no frequent bus connections. Moreover, Palaio Trikeri is a small island which is hard to reach also.
Don't hesitate to ask me anything else you may need!
Always glad to help!
