Taking the train from Thessaloniki to Volos

The Question:

we arrive at thessaloniki airport at 01.45am and want to catch a train to volos what times do they run and what are the prices......
thanks janet

The Answer:

Hello there!
The train departures depend on your arrival date. But the last train to Volos is 01.51 and the next one departs at 07.24 in the morning. It is better though to call and confirm the times of departure because it is quite common for the train company to change scheduled itineraries. The phone number (since the information on the trains' website is not that reliable) is 0030 2310 517517.

Many thanks,

Stavros in Thessaloniki Attractions

The Question:

We are going to Stavros which is east of Thessaloniki in September. Can anyone give any information on tavernas and the town of Stavros as we don't know what to expect.
Thanks

The Answer:

Hello!
The small town of Stavros is a beautiful tourist resort completely equipped with all modern facilities. It has grown quite popular to visitors from all over the world and has plenty to offer in terms of summer holidays.
All of the beaches in the area are marked with the blue flag, which means that they are officialy recognised by the state, as being beaches with clear water and properly equipped with sunbeds, ombrellas and showers. Besides that, the majority of beaches in the area offer sea sport facilities. One of the most attractive sites in the area is the 60 hectars plane forest by the beach where you can pic-nic, walk around etc. The town is also filled with plenty of beach bars under palm trees, tavernas and restaurants with different types of cuisine but the majority of them have specialty in fish and seafood. Since I haven't visited it myself, I can not recommed any specific ones but asking the locals as soon as you arrive, would be a fine idea!
Hope this has enlightened you!

Asprovalta Stavros Sites

The Question:

Hello, I would like to know more about place Stavros (near Asprovalta) since I\'m planning to go there in a few days. What are the places that I would supposed to visit there? And by that I mean on historical places! :)))
Thank You!!!

The Answer:

Hello to you too!
So Asprovalta mainly offers beautiful beaches but if you have a car then it is an excellent opportunity to explore some of the interesting historical sites of the area. There is a Tower from the Byzantine times in the nearby village of Vrasna that is preserved in an excellent condition. Moreover, you can also visit there the monastery of Saint George which was initially built in 1297. An excellent excursion is the beautiful lake Volvi which is under the protection of the state due to the rare species of flora and fauna. Lastly, you should not omit to visit the arcaheological site of Amfipolis. Amfipolis was a very significant city since the Ancient Times. It is from there that Alexander the Great started his journey to conquer the East, and even during Roman times Marc Antony used it is a base for his attacks in the Aegean Sea. Nowadays, you can admire the ruins of the ancient city and also visit the Arcaheologiacal Museum which is situated in the city entrance.
Hope I have helped!

Mobile Phones in Greece

The Question:

Hi Stavros. My partner and I want to use our mobile phones in Greece. Do we need to buy sim cards in Greece and do they fit all mobile phones?

The Answer:

Hello there!
Since you do not give me any information regarding the model of your mobile phone, I can not be sure if it will be working in Greece. Moreover, if you have activated the roaming service on your mobile phone it should be working. Regarding the charges, your mobile provider will inform you respectively. If you do not wish to activate roaming, then the ideal solution would be to buy a greek SIM card, so that you can make calls from your mobile phone too.

How to reach Ferry Embarkation Gates in Piraeus port

The Question:

Hallo to athens,
The ferry embarkation changes from E9 to E2. On the map it looks a little far for walking from the metro station. How far and how long do you think it takes to walk - or is there another way ?From landing at the airpot until the ferry leaves i have about two hours.
Thank for answering

The gate is approximately a 20-30 minutes walk, but there is an internal port bus that will take you from E5, which is where the metro station is, and leave you at any gate you wish. As soon as you arrive at the port, enter it, and you will find the bus stops or someone at the port to ask for these internal buses.

From Igoumenitsa to Kifissia, Athens

The Question:

Hi!
We want to go from Bari, Italy to Igoumenitsa, Greece then on to Kifissia. Can you please tell me the cheapest/fastest way to do that?
thanks

The Answer:

Hello!
First of all, Kifissia is a suburb of Athens. As a result, you need to take a suburban bus (KTEL) from Igoumenitsa to Athens. As soon as you arrive at the Kifissos KTEL station in Athens, then there is a bus 051 that will take you to the city center and very close to the metro station of Omonoia. From the metro station of Omonoia, take the green line and take off at Kifissia station.

Thessaloniki to Skopelos by GA ferries

The Question:

Hello,my fiance and i are travelling from Thessaloniki to Skopelos on G.A. Ferries on 8/22/08. It appears that the ferry goes to Skopelos before Skiathos, is that true? Which of the two ports in skopelos does the ferry stop at? i was hoping it stops at Glossa port because that is where our hotel will be, Akrotiri hotel. We were planning on getting deck seating, do you think we will be ok for 8 hours? Also, is there a phone number to contact G.A. Ferries?

The Answer:

Hello there!
The GA Ferry Ntaliana stops firstly at Skiathos and then moves on to Skopelos. Unless the weather conditions do not allow it, the port at Skopelos that the ferry will stop is Agnontas. 8 hours on deck is not that horrible but it depends on your needs and how willing you are to bear this. You can always book air type seats. In case you want to book your ferry tickets and get further assistance you can check this website www.fantasticgreece.com or call them. You can reach GA ferries at 0030 210 4582640.

The third one is where the holy place of Agios Oros is located, which is a region that belongs to the monks og Agio Oros and only men can visit. From Athens to Skiathos

The Question:

I am finding it difficult to get a oneway flight from athens to skiathos in August, what would be the quickest, easiest(& cheapest)way to travel??Please help!!!Thank you!:)

The Answer:

Hello!
Unfortunately the only airline flying to Skiathos from Athens is Olympic Airways and the plane going to Skiathos has a capacity of 30 persons. As a result, flights are always fully booked months in advance, especially for August which is the busiest month of the summer. The only way to reach Skiathos is by reaching either by car or by bus the port of Agios Constantinos and then take the highspeed ferry to Skiathos. The ferry route is approximately 2 hours long. If this is possible for you, then renting a car would be the finest solution, otherwise the bus from the Liosion Suburban Bus Station in Athens will take you to Agios Constantinos in 2.5 hours.

From Athens to Milina Road Sights

The Question:

Yiasou Stavros,
How long does it take to drive from the Athens Airport to Milina in the Pelion area? Is there anything beautiful to see on the ride up?We are deciding on a late night flight from Athens to Skiathosor driving up.

Efxharisto!
Teri(Eleftheria)

The Answer:

Yiassou Teri!
The drive from Athens International Airport to Milina is approximately 3.5 hours. There a re plenty of small villages, cities as well as beaches to explore on your way up to Milina. I would suggest a visit to Pilion andthe surrouding area which is absolutely astonishing. If you do have time, then you could also visit Trikala and Meteora. Trikala is a very beautiful city west of Volos and Meteora is a complex of monasteries built on high and steep cliffs with an astonishing view. Volos is also worth visiting.

Taxi Cost from Piraeus port to Agios Constantinos port

The Question:

What is the cost of a taxi or mini-bus from Piraeus to A.G. Constantinos (Port) and how long is the trip?

The Answer:

Goodmorning from Greece!

The journey from Piraeus port to the port of Agios Constantinos will take you approximately 2,5 hours and the cost for a taxi is, depending on the taxi company, around 240 euros. Keep in mind that it is better to have booked a taxi waiting for you at the port in advance, than catching one there, because it is highly likely that you will not find one going to Agios Constantinos port or that you will be charged for more!
